June Updates

June 13th, 2011 by Michael Savage

We haven’t been very active on our blog lately and no matter how much we try to keep it updated we tend to let work get the best of us. So today we have a few cool updates we just wanted to share in hopes you will check them out.

First, we have the newly released/accepted Cyborg Lifestock! While this isn’t a Red Metal Box production this is something our Lead Mobile Developer, Ryan, has been working on for quite some time and we couldn’t be happier to see it in the App Store! We will keep you updated on Cyborg Lifestock as much as possible but you can always check out Ryans blog. Also keep an eye on PopArcade which is the publisher of Cyborg Lifestock.

Second, we have be focusing mainly on our mobile development business but we did release a new site for DK Love Movers, LLC. We used WordPress and the StudioPress Genesis Framework and one of their child themes to help build what DK Love was looking for. We hope you will check out and use their services if you’re moving.

We don’t have much to show this month but we have quite a few cool projects in the works that hopefully we will have ready for release soon!

CamJac Properties

March 22nd, 2011 by Michael Savage

Last week we launched CamJac Properties, a local rental business for houses and beach condos. We were happy to work with them on their first web presence. We used the StudioPress Genesis framework for this project and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

New Year, New Goals!

December 26th, 2010 by Michael Savage

Every year we sit down as a group and come up with our goals for the next year. As a company it is very important to have goals for the year, as well as plans to carry out those goals.

Last year we made big plans, including changing our company name from MDS Web Studios to Red Metal Box. We have also moved more into mobile development. This year we launched our first iPhone/iPod App called PolicePlus!

So take some time before the end of the year to make some personal and company goals for 2011! Feel free to share your ideas and/or comments below!

Announcing PolicePlus

December 18th, 2010 by Michael Savage

Recently we have been making a push to a more mobile business model. In doing this, we have picked up Ryan Poolos, who is now our lead mobile engineer. Together we have been able to produce our first mobile application, PolicePlus.

We created PolicePlus due to our deep ties with law enforcement and helping the general public understand the police language that is 10 codes. This app features basic 10 codes, miranda rights/warning, and bug reporting/feature requests.

PolicePlus is now available on the App Store for free. So be sure to download yours today and have a look at PolicePlus!

Making a Universal iPhone/iPad App

December 12th, 2010 by Michael Savage

Just wanted to post a quick note on creating Universal iPhone/iPad Applications. Before today I wasn’t quite sure how to make a universal app. By this I mean I wasn’t sure how the code was supposed to be added to your current project.

So a quick background. We just submitted our first iPhone App (Wooo!) and are interested in also having a universal iPad app. So I started looking around the Apple Developer site and couldn’t find anything about where the code for the application was supposed to go. So I started Googling and reaching out on twitter to see what I could come up with.

After a few minutes I found a pretty useful link (even though it was built with the old SDK). It shows you what is needed as far as building your code and updating your info.plist to show what nib file the iPad should use.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the file structure incase you don’t want to download the .zip file from PigTailSoft.
